Weekend Cake Peek #3
Apple blossoms in baby colors !

Apple blossoms are very simple to make, work very well as elegant filler flowers in an icing flower bouquet, but I love them the most when they sit in happy clusters of their own!! Enjoy your weekend.

* This is one of the first few cakes i decorated, made for a baby shower alomst one and a half years ago.

Another beautiful cake!
Have you seen my carrot cake? That's the best I could do with the icing. LOL Or whenever I try to make it prettier by adding lines and dots, I mess up. :)

Hi this is rg. Your cake looks awesome. I'm sure it tastes great too. What a pretty decoration on it ....I just kept on staring at it for several hours now... it's that wonderful...How did u manage to make such beautiful flowers without any mess? do u add colors to the icing?I wish I could decorate the same way(let alone decorating, I wish I knew to bake a cake from scratch)....You've a very good talent and I guess you've lot of patience too...Very very good, Archana.

archana said...

Doc,
For baking cakes, the best results are obtained with " cake flour", which is a low gluten wheat flour( Lower the gluten, softer the cake). If you can't find cake flour, use " Pastry flour" which has a slightly higher gluten content than CF, but it is still very good. AP flour has intermediate gluten levels, so that is made to fit all different kinds of food preps, you can make a decent cake with it too. Self raising flour is premixed with baking powder ( usually 1 cup flour + 11/2 tsp bp). Use this flour if the recipe calls for it. Most of the time recipes call for different proportions between flour and bp, so it is good to have just the flour without any added leavening agents. Atleast in the US terminology, AP flour and Plain flour are the same. When you are making bread, use a high gluten flour like bread flour. You can make decent breads with AP flour too. Hope this helps Shynee. Gothambinte oroo maya vilasangale.... Nattil nammude Maida kondu ellam cheyyan pattum ennanu ente abhiprayam.

RG,
Thank you for visiting Spicyana, and spending time to write these encouraging lines. I am so happy that you liked the cakes. Please do come back. I add food grade gel colors ( Wilton or Cakeart) for coloring buttercream. If you are interested in cake decoration, you can enquire about Wilton classes in a hobby store near you.

Hi Archana,

Your cakes look truly amazing!!! I can't imagine how anyone can bring themselves to eat these works of art. I've never ever baked a cake but if I could bake one which looked even 1/10th as good as yours I would be really excited.

Hi , those apple blossoms are royal icing ones or buttercream can u respond to this . lovely cakes

archana said...

Hi Anonymous,
These flowers are made of buttercream. I freeze the flowers soon after making , so that i can freely and effortlessly transfer them on to a cake.
